Ultimate Gingersnaps

INGREDIENTS:½ cup candied ginger chunks in syrup, drained (reserve ¼ cup of the syrup)
¼ cup light molasses
1 ½ Tbsps. fresh ginger, chopped
2 tsps. ground ginger
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine, room temp.
1 large egg
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsps. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
