College uses gamification to push veggie consumption

Elon University’s Vegan and Vegetarian week includes activities, tastings and a grand-prize drawing.

The gamification or game theory of turning healthful eating into a game is something that’s being studied for its health benefits and ability to change behavior.

At Elon University, a mid-sized private school between Winston-Salem and Durham in North Carolina, Registered Dietitian Amanda Cerra led the recent Vegan and Vegetarian week with the purpose of education in mind. The fun and games component was a veggie passport, so trying the veg-centric menu items available on campus became an adventure for students.
