Compass Group PLC, the British-based parent company of Compass Group North America, has announced a commitment to source 100 percent cage-free eggs, both shell and liquid, globally by 2025. The North American unit, which has already made considerable progress in this area, has committed to achieving the goal by 2019 in the United States.

The impact of the move would be considerable as Compass operates in more than 50,000 locations in 50 countries and serves over 5 billion meals annually. The North American unit operated in 11,600 locations as of the end of its last fiscal year.

“Improving the welfare of farm animals is a key focus for our business and we've supported the sourcing of cage free eggs since 2009,” commented Nicki Crayfourd, Director of Group Health, Safety and Environment for Compass Group PLC, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “This commitment marks the next step in our journey and we look forward to continuing to work with partners such as Compassion in World Farming, Humane Society International and The Humane League who provide invaluable support and guidance.”
