White County Medical Center, Searcy, AK, has recently opened a newly renovated cafè and picked up right where they left off. After six months of construction, WCMC's cafè includes seating for 250, more foodservice lines which help to move people through more efficiently, with greater variety, a "made-to order" grill, outdoor seating and added hours of operation.
"This space was last renovated 13 years ago, so it was still plenty new," says Janet Spotts, director of dietary services. "We had simply outgrown the old space."
The cafè, with floor to ceiling windows, has tripled its capacity in the servery and increased kitchen space by two thirds. There is a grab— and go— area with a walk up refrigerator.
Spotts, an HFM member, utilized the group's CAT program to have a consultant come and help design the space. A HACCP group also came during construction to make recommendations.
