"Baseball, at heart, is about hot dogs,” says Casey Rapp, operations manager, Sportservice, Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX. “When you were growing up, you had a hot dog at the ball game with your dad or mom or church group.”
The baseball season is long, so a smart concessions operation will offer a variety of hot dogs that can keep season ticket holders coming back for more during 81 home games, while at the same time providing a treat for those who only come to one game each summer, Rapp says.
Here are some of the hottest dogs out there.
1. Fireworks Frank
This red, white and blue dog is patriotic and delicious at the same time. (Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX, Delaware North)
2. Pastrami Dog
Quick-grilled pastrami on top makes this a very New York kind of dog. (Citi Field, NYC, Aramark)
3. Polish Hill Dog
Mini pierogis make this dog Polish, and the coleslaw and onion straws make it extra delicious. (PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Aramark)
4. Lamb Sausage
Lamb Sausage at AT&T Park, San Francisco: Lamb is in the lineup when the Giants play. Locally produced American Lamb sausage is topped with grilled onions and peppers and served on a French-style roll.
5. Frito Dog
Reminiscent of a Southwestern “Frito Pie” or “walking taco,” this dog packs more punch with the crunch of salty Fritos. Perfection. (Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX, Sportservice)
6. Garrison Creek Grilled Home Run Footlong
Covered with maple baked beans, cheddar and bacon bits. Any questions? (Rogers Centre, Toronto, Aramark)
7. The Sausage Sundae
The Sausage Sundae at Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX: Rangers fans are discovering an item that’s like a banana split…but with sausage! One of the hottest dogs is in the form of the Sausage Sundae: ¼ lb. of grilled smoked sausage that’s been sliced in half (like a banana) and placed on either side of mac ‘n cheese, shredded brisket and mashed potatoes. “It’s meant to look like three scoops of ice cream,” says Rapp. And the ‘cherry on top’ is a cherry pepper. Genius!
8. Cheesesteak Dog
Cheesesteak Dog at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia: One of the finer things about Philly is its cheesesteak. While it may not be Geno’s or Pat’s (the two legendary competing cheesesteak places in the city), this offering has an edge: it’s also a hot dog. (Aramark)
9. Texas Chili Dog
Chili, cheese, onions. A sloppy, over-the-top dog at its best. (Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX, Delaware North)
10. Blazin’ Buffalo Chicken Dog
Blazin’ Buffalo Chicken Dog at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, MO: For KC Royals fans who can’t decide between hot wings and a hot dog—they don’t have to! This dog has it all: a beef hot dog with pulled chicken in Buffalo sauce, topped with crunchy coleslaw.
11. Champion Dog
Champion Dog at Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX: Check out these super cool hot dog variations, just a few from the big-as-Texas selection available for Rangers fans looking for both tried-and-true and something new. (Delaware North Companies)
