FOOD AND FESTIVITIES AT NACUFS CONFERENCE. Cameron Schauf of Bryn Mawr College presents Brian Klippel of the University of California-San Diego with the Theodore Minah Award; NACUFS President Peter Napolitano and Greg Drescher of the Culinary Institute preside over the culinary competition, eventually won by Chef Raul LaCara of Stanford University.

Meeting in Las Vegas in early July, members of National Association of College and University Foodservices (NACUFS) took time to honor some of their most distinguished and successful colleagues. Brian Klippel, associate director of housing and dining services at the University of California-San Diego, was named recipient of the prestigious Theodore Minah Distinguished Service Award, the association's highest honor. Other award recipients included Auxiliary Services Director Art Korandanis of the College of the Holy Cross and Dining Services Director R. Tucker Rossiter of Dartmouth College were named winners of the Richard Lichtenfelt Award for outstanding service to the association. Meredith Austin, channel manager for Tyson Foods, received the Daryl Van Hook industry Award.

Grand prize winners of the prestigious Loyal Horton Dining Awards included McMaster-University (Residence Hall Dining—Standard Menu), Virginia Tech (Residence Hall Dining—Special Event/Theme Dinner), California Institute of Technology (Catering Standard Menu), University of Montana (Catering—Special Event, see p. 52), SUNY at Brockport (Retail Sales—Single Stand-Alone Concept/Outlet) and Miami University (Retail Multiple Concepts/Outlets)

In addition, the organization installed Mona Milius, director of residence/dining at the University of Northern Iowa, as its 2004-05 president and named Sharon Coulson, FSD at the University of California-Davis as president-elect.
