The cafes at the U.S. House of Representatives have raised prices by an average of 10 percent to meet increased food and fuel costs. Management firm Restaurant Associates was given the option of increasing its prices dependent on market price conditions in the food supply channel when it won the contract late last year.

The Kansas City Royals have reached an agreement with Aramark Corp. to provide all concession and retail merchandise services at Kauffman Stadium starting in 2009. Aramark had already been the provider of premium catering services at Royals Stadium for past two seasons while Centerplate handled concessions and retail merchandise services.

The City of Monterey, CA, has enaged Ovations Food Services to provide catering/concessions for the Monterey Conference Center. The facility includes a 19,600-sq.ft. exhibit hall, grand ballroom, 494-seat theater and executive boardroom.

A highly contagious norovirus was responsible for sickening more than 170 Georgetown University students recently. Most of the affected students were treated and released.

The University of Maryland is delaying the opening of its new Northwoods Dining Hall until fall 2011, and perhaps even further if a new dorm doesn't open on time. Construction on the dining venue cannot begin until the plans for a 650-bed dorm where Northwoods will be located are approved.

A number of Kansas City area private schools are serving full meals featuring organic, locally-grown ingredients thanks to a program called Bistro Kids' Farm 2 School. The goal of the program is eventually to serve up to a dozen schools, including public schools with at-risk populations.

Andrew Kerin, president of Aramark' North American Food, Hospitality and Facility Services unit, has been named the 2008 Hospitality Executive of the Year by the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society.

Cody, ID, Public Library recently reopened in a brand new 27,000-sq.ft. location that includes a café with a full commercial kitchen that will be manned by culinary students. The new Biblio Bistro will be shared with culinary students from Northwest College, who will use the kitchen both for classroom work and as practical experience.

Chartwells is providing dinner to several dozen elementary school students receiving evening tutoring in the Ann Arbor (MI) school district, thanks to a grant. The four-week Mighty Mustang program is designed to increase proficiency in reading, writing and math in preparation for the Michigan Educational Assessment Program tests.

Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services has opened six new food and retail concepts in Detroit Metropolitan Airport's new North Terminal.
