"Borrowed" Dishes/Flatware Impact Costs, Community at Michigan College

Cornerstone University has a problem with students taking dishes and utensils from its common dini ng areas to their dorm rooms.

Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI, is having a problem with students taking cutlery and permanentware from the school's dining hall, reports the Herald campus paper. The school says the biggest problem with the practice is not the cost of replacing the items but the social impact of students preferring to eat in their dorm rooms rather than in the common dining areas, which degrades the sense of campus community. The soiled items, which tend to pile up in hallways, bathrooms and lounge areas, also pose a sanitation concern.
