Boston University held its annual Lobster Night dinner on September 17 to welcome students back to campus. With 7,500 Maine lobsters on the menu, the evening brings together area students and foreign students to enjoy the traditional New England delicacy.
Each diner receives one steamed native Maine lobster along with sides like steamed local corn on the cob with chervil butter, baked Maine potatoes with sour cream and chives and roasted corn and crab bisque. There was also fresh local apple cider with roasted local peach trifle or Maine blueberry cobbler for dessert. Students preferring an alternative could choose a citrus and honey-brined rotisserie chicken with rosemary and garlic crust as well as vegan, salad bar, soup, deli and grill items.
The tradition started in 1985 at one location, the George Sherman Union, but has since grown into one of the biggest events presented by Dining Services each year, with all dining halls now participating.
