The University of Kentucky plans to solicit proposals from companies interested in running its campus dining services, though a school spokespersons says no final decision on outsourcing has yet been made, reports the Herald-Leader. The school, which privatized its residence halls last year, stresses that any outside dining service provider would have to provide job opportunities for current dining employees and student workers, continue the department's sustainability efforts and add more healthy options to the menu. KU Dining spent about $800,000 on Kentucky-grown produce last year, a figure expected to top $1 million in the current year.
The school had hired a consultant late last year to explore the issue and write the RFP.
