15 College dining menu items that made the campus crowd go mad this March

We asked the foodservice teams behind the big college basketball schools playing in March Madness tournaments: Which menu item is your true MVP? Plus: Bonus-point extra menu items!

Basketball in the spring is a reassuring sign of a return of nice weather, and this year, a return to roaring crowds and all the competitive excitement that goes along with the bounce of the ball and the squeak of the sneakers. As ESPN writer Joe Lunardi noted, “a return to the version of March Madness fans have known and loved is back…a standard selection process, a multiple-city event and the return of fans, bands and cheerleaders are among the elements college basketball worshippers hope to welcome back.”

Lunardi did forget to mention one thing, however. The food! Fans are cheering for Buddha bowls, loaded French fries, burgers gone wild, charred octopus(!), a beloved soft-serve cone, chicken in the form of wings, sandwiches, burritos and more, created by the foodservice teams behind the scenes at the schools participating in the tournament. We even found a hyped-up salmon dish that has its own fan page on Instagram.

We hope all the teams in the tournament are having fun, and we can rest assured knowing the student bodies at the various schools are eating well!
