Meatloaf for the win
The All-Star meatloaf is an ode to Midwestern comfort food. In the time leading up to the All-Star Game, Delaware North Executive Chef Josh Ingraham knew he wanted to represent the Midwest’s hearty culinary traditions. “We had to do a meatloaf,” he says. While many Cleveland old-timers grew up eating a meatloaf recipe from a local Catholic bishop/TV personality that includes breadcrumbs and applesauce, this is spiced up big time the big leagues: a buttered ciabatta roll with a slab of meatloaf glazed in tomato-teriyaki sauce and served with crunchy daikon and carrot slaw, priced at $10.
The bases (and pierogis) are loaded
If you didn’t try a pierogi, did you really even visit Cleveland? The food crew at Progressive Field are making sure all attendees have the chance with these loaded pierogis, available for $13, topped with caramelized cabbage (another nod to the Eastern European heritage of the city), crispy onions, chopped green onion, tomato, beer cheese, sour cream and bacon.
A healthier ballpark choice? Try Thai
In addition to showing off local foods that make Cleveland delicious, the All-Star Game is also a chance for Ingraham to walk the walk with his healthy eating mission. This Thai peanut keto miracle noodle salad, $10 at the stadium’s gluten-free stand in section 153, is made with hoisin-kissed shiitake mushrooms and fresh veggies galore.
Who says there’s no Brussels in baseball?
Sweet ‘n sour roasted Brussels sprouts are another All-Star item with Asian flavors. These beauties are charred to perfection and splashed with sweet chili and rice wine vinegar. Nutritional yeast gives the sprouts some umami oompf, and there’s a crunchy component with toasted cashews and red cabbage.
Greek festivals in summer are just as common as snow and sleet in the winter in Cleveland, and a lot more welcome. Gyros are one of the first international sandwiches to be widely adopted in this country, and with good reason. This version, found at the Let’s Eat Cleveland concept in section 102 for $13, is made with beef and lamb with creamy tzatziki sauce, Greek hot sauce and veggies on a pita.
