The Board of School Committee of the Manchester (NH) School District has voted to authorize the district’s food services department to donate the boxes of commodity ground beef from the USDA sitting in its freezers since the spring, reports the New Hampshire Union-Leader. The product, consisting of lean-textured beef treated with ammonia-hydroxide, is estimated at nearly 14,000 pounds. It cost the district $800 to ship but was otherwise free.
