Many popular YouTubers post videos of themselves “unboxing” things, whether it’s a new makeup palette or a new video game system or just about anything. Piggybacking on that trend, with a school chef twist, Rebecca Polson, C.C., SNS, culinary trainer with Culinary and Wellness Services at Minneapolis Public Schools, created a series of unboxing videos for families in the district receiving meal boxes during quarantine and into the summer.
“The unboxing videos came from a request from the wellness team, who runs our department’s social media, to film videos on how to reheat some of the items in the box,” Polson says.
I know how popular ‘unboxing’ videos are on YouTube, so I thought, why not show off all menu items, rather than just showing the ones needing to be reheated. I asked my boss, Omar, if I could go ahead with filming recipes and he gave me the green light.”
You can find the videos on Polson’s Facebook page, MPS Chef Rebecca or @ChefRebeccaK12 on Instagram and Twitter. Check out some of her recipes, plus practical filming tips for greenlighting your own video project.
