Colorado Free Summer Kid Meals Continue to Rise

The number of free summer meals served to children across Colorado has nearly doubled in three years, from 770,000 in 2009 to more than 1.3 million last year.

The number of free summer meals served to children across Colorado has nearly doubled in three years, from 770,000 in 2009 to more than 1.3 million last year, reports the Denver Post, ad that number is expected to increase further this year. About 60 percent of the 450 or so sites expected to operate this summer are managed by school districts. The meals are paid for by the USDA as part of its child nutrition program.
