Dayton Schools End in Red

Dayton (OH) Public Schools foodservice department ended the school year with a $1.3 millin deficit, forcing a funds transfer from the district to meet its budget, reports the Dayton Daily News. The department balmes declining enrollment, which reduces federal subsidy dollars, the rising cost of foods and a reduction in the number of foodservice contracts with non-public and charter schools that the department had used to generate additional revenue.
