Following a policy change governing supplier relationships, Emory University is now working on bringing direct purchases from local farmers to campus, reports the Emory Wheel. The man charged with making it happen is Chaz Holt, who was hired a year ago as farmer liaison. He works with campus dining services provider Sodexo to secure direct procurement deals with farmers. The biggest challenge is finding local growers who meet Emory’s requirements and could sell directly to the university. Emory’s Strategic Plan calls for three-quarters of its on-campus food to come from local, sustainable sources by 2015.
