Sodexo's Meatless Monday Survey Tabulates Program Impact

A recent survey by Sodexo of its sites found that the Meatless Monday initiative resulted in increased vegetable purchases at half of the 245 sites surveyed, while 30 percent saw decreased meat purchases. Meatless Monday was launched in January 2011 by Sodexo as a voluntary program to encourage the increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, grains and beans.

About three quarters of the sites responding to the survey had implemented the program and 65 percent indicated they would continue to promote it. The majority of sites found no impact on sales one way or the other.

The survey respondents were almost even split between healthcare and B&I sites, with healthcare offering a more positive response to the program than B&I.
