Stanford Opens Major New Dining Venue

Stanford University Dining has opened Arrillaga Family Dining Commons, the the first dining hall to be built on the Stanford campus in almost 20 years and a facility designed to serve as the flagship of the department.

The 26,000-sq.ft. state of the art two-story dining facility features a cooking suite as the centerpiece of its Culinary Studio where students, faculty and staff will learn under a curriculum established by Stanford Dining's culinary team through cooking classes and demonstrations. The classes will use technology such as video cameras at the cooking station to reach a larger audience while retaining the intimacy and excitement of a Food Network production. In addition, Stanford Dining's frequent partnerships with celebrity chefs will ensure that the topics and guest speakers remain contemporary and dynamic.

Arrillaga offers continuous meal service weekdays from 7:30 am to 8 pm as part of a pilot program, and also will now house Stanford Dining's The Dish late night dining program daily from 9 pm to 2 am. The Dish offers a varied late night menu, from hot wings and pizza to a new Fit & Healthy menu that includes items such as pesto turkey wrap and high protein berry yogurt parfait.

Arrillaga also has a multipurpose room with a sprung floor that is designed to host classes such as yoga, pilates and dance. There is a group study room that houses a projection screen and seats between 25 and 30 students.

There is also a creative collaboration room that can function as a classroom, brainstorming space or relaxation room. Wellness kiosks provide students with information on keeping the mind, body and spirit healthy and balanced.
