Sodexo has won the contract to operate the food services in the Cranston, RI, school district, reports the Providence Journal. The company is guaranteeing a surplus, with the size depending on whether the workforce remains unionized. The union contract for 21 full-time employees expired at the end of June and is currently in arbitration with the district. There are also some 70 non-unionized part-time employees. Cranston's dining operations has a deficit of nearly $800,000, but Sodexo projects a surplus of between $179,000 and $434,000 depending on whether the union workers are retained.
