The University of Tennessee is contemplating a move that would require all 21,000 undergraduates to purchase at least a $300 dining plan each semester, reports local news station WBIR. The proposal would require the purchase of either a meal plan or a deficit balance plan of at least $300 per semester for all undergraduate students, whether they live on campus or not. Currently, only students living in certain dorms on campus are required to purchase meal plans. UT's dining operations, which has recently seen declines in meal plan participation even as retail sales have grown, are managed by Aramark.
