Dallas ISD Gets Community Eligibility Status for School Meals

District will become the largest school district in Texas to offer universal free breakfast and lunch to students this fall.

The Dallas ISD will become the largest school district in Texas to offer universal free breakfast and lunch to students this fall under the USDA's Community Eligibility Program, reports news station KDFW. The 14th largest district in the country according to FM's 2013 K-12 Power Players listing, Dallas ISD has nearly 160,000 students and over 200 school sites. The free/reduced percentage was 89% in the 2013-14 school year. The district will reportedly save around $300,000 by not having to administer meal subsidy qualification forms.
