The Montgomery County (MD) Department of Food and Nutrition Services has banned strawberry milk from the county’s school system, reports the Washington Post. The district will retain chocolate milk, which has the same calories and sugar counts, but strawberry flavored milk also includes an artificial red coloring additive, Red 40, that some studies have linked to hyperactivity in some children. Montgomery County students consume almost 230,000 half-pints of strawberry flavored milk each month, about 18 percent of the total milk consumed.
