FM Top 50 2015: No. 7 Thompson Hospitality

Fiscal 2014 Revenues: $499,000,000

Thompson, one of the country’s largest minority-owned businesses, operates both franchised commercial restaurants and onsite dining sites. Through a partnership with Compass Group, it provides dining services for corporations and universities in 46 states as well as Puerto Rico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy.

The company continues to develop new brands such as Willie T’s Lobster Shack—added in the past year—while customizing its existing concepts American Tap Room, Austin Grill, Thompson Tap Room, Austin Grill Express and BRB (Be Right Burger), to fit within its various business lines.

Together, those six brands operate in 18 locations across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, including units in college and healthcare environments. The company also has partnerships with over a hundred commercial restaurant brands that it can deploy at client sites.

Thompson also continues to increase participation in its facilities management business, especially in the college/university segment.
