Morrison Dining is Cornell’s new residential dining food hall, with 11 micro-restaurants in four quadrants serving mostly custom prepared dishes made in front of diners.
Morrison Dining opened in January as part of Cornell’s North Campus Residential Project intended to add more student housing and complementary student services to that part of the campus.
The main highlight of Morrison is its “food hall” concept with multifaceted seating areas so guests can explore and find full meals at any of the individual platforms, or pick and choose from an almost endless number of options and ingredients.
Cornell Dining is partnering with the Division of Nutritional Sciences to operate Discovery Kitchen, a food lab located in the heart of the Morrison Dining space that can host special events, student coursework, recipe testing and development, and the professional development of staff.
The seating is arranged intentionally to create micro-restaurant experiences, each with its own look and feel, and with the seating in many cases placed very close to the food platform areas.
The North End features pizza from two Mara Forini pizza ovens.
The West Side Grill quadrant’s Iron Grill offers classic American breakfast along with themed bars like build your own bao bar for lunch and dinner.
Also at West Side Grill is Plancha with its grilled veggies and fresh market fish.
The North End quadrant also serves its own fresh made pasta in customized individual dishes.
The West Side Grill quadrant has a rotisserie that prepares meats like chickens and pork loin.
West Side Grill also includes a wood fired grill serving composed small plates.
The plant forward and major-allergen-free Flat Top Grill in the East Side Market quadrant is Cornell Dining’s first dedicated vegan station.
Flat Top Grill offers customizable portions with just-in-time cooking in front of the guest.
A student-run weekend crepe station is featured in the South End Sweets quadrant serving a series of creative crepe fillings.
South End Sweets also features famous Cornell Dairy ice cream with eight rotating flavors daily, plus house made cookies and vegan soft serve.
The separate Halal station features zabiha certified meats. Students are especially appreciative of this and the Kosher stations being integral parts of the Morrison Dining mix rather than retrofitted add-ons.
