Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall is located in the long-vacant, 106-year-old Cook County Hospital building that is centrally located among healthcare institutions in Chicago’s Illinois Medical District on the city’s Near West Side.
The 106-year-old Cook County Hospital building received a $150 million renovation that includes not just Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall but fully leased medical office space, a daycare center, and the new 210-room Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District hotel.
Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall encompasses some 10,000 square feet of serving and seating space, making social distancing easier.
In addition to the interior dining space, Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall has an 800-square-foot outdoor dining space for use in favorable weather.
The venue has adapted to the post-COVID environment with strategies like modular seating, the universal use of masks (other than when eating), floor decals to signal customer spacing in queues, plexiglass partitions between customers and food hall staff and frequent cleaning and sanitizing.
Introducing her new and first restaurant concept, Chef/Owner Taylor Bischof had brought Brekkie & Bake Shop to Dr. Murphy’s Food Hall.

Owned by Bran'Arla Johnson, Classic Cobbler is a family owned business specializing in home-made fruit cobblers and pies that are made with quality ingredients and no preservatives, and have been perfected across generations, beginning in the South before migrating to the Midwest.
Guests of Classic Cobbler’s brick-and-mortar location within the food hall will enjoy the cobblers’ and pies’ flaky, buttery crusts and just-right mix of fruits and spices.
Inspired by a nostalgic love of the iconic peanut butter cookies served in Chicago’s public schools, owner/CEO Cheryl Crockett started Crockett Cookies by making lunchroom style butter cookies for family and friends.

Brothers Teddy and Alexis Vejar opened Jarabe in 2015 inside a small storefront in the Medical District as an offshoot of La Adelita, one of Chicago’s original food trucks.
