Austin to Require Composting Beginning in 2016

Food businesses in Austin, TX, that are larger than 5,000 sq.ft. will be required to compost their food scraps starting in 2016 under new rules passed by the City Council, reports the Austin Statesman. The rules mandate that organic and compostable waste be separated out from the other trash for collection by private haulers. Operations of under 5,000 sq.ft. will have the same requirement beginning in 2017.
