District Pilots $5 All-Natural Elementary School Lunches

Three Scottsdale (AZ) USD elementary schools are piloting $5 freshly prepared natural food entrees, reports the Arizona Daily Star. The selections are preservative-free versions of familiar dishes such as macaroni and cheese and lasagna. The cost, which is more than double the $2.25 price of standard selections, seem not to have deterred parents, who ordered around 500 of the meals in the first two weeks of the program in late September. The program started after the school began getting numerous requests for meal choices free of pesticides and preservatives. The meals must be pre-ordered online and are prepared in one of the elementary school kitchens using all-natural meats, organic bread and triple-washed produce.
